Meeting Minutes
September 27, 2007 (Thursday) 2:00 PM


Present: Sign in sheet handed out. (Laura Perry has)

Review/Accept Minutes from 8/23/07 Meeting: Yes. (Sign in list has been misplaced.)

Project Reports:
Don’t forget to sign up for different projects.

Map: Jon Montan has generated 850 tax parcels on map (chose parcels close to roads)
“Look up system” has a lot to be desired.
Verizon web may be more accurate than AT & T.
Laura Perry tried just street or road name without house #.
Need to try putting Verizon COs on map – they go a distance of 18,000 feet.
Jon Montan suggested to keep looking up addresses.
Jon Montan will link maps to blog for others to view.

Did introductions as new people have arrived.

Presentation:
Vince Jordan, Ridgeview/Tel.
Started in 2004 as technology company.
Able to login and increase or decrease band width as you need it – day to day.
Showed us on-line setup of new broadband account.Laura asked about SLC availability by Franchise deployment.
Started in Colorado. Their employee talked about our area and mentioned Danc Network.
“This is the model for solving broadband services for America.”
They worked with ConnectSI – Southern Illinois.
Laura Perry asked if continued development in SLC depend on franchise? Vince Jordan replied not necessarily.
They do have live access in SLC and are working with various towns and villages.
Laura Perry asked what can we do to help with customer service representatives here in SLC?
They are utilizing One Stop Career Center.

Surveys:
Discussion of survey by Laura Perry.
Use this as a broader key to get information on further technologies.
Use to see how people and businesses are using internet.
Discussion of Jefferson County Survey.
Is wages and age something to be on survey? This was discussed.
Somehow get their attention to do survey.. reminder to find out who doesn’t have internet services.
Superintendent of Schools may assist in passing information on surveys out.
Suggested to strike question #2 on Survey or put it at end.
Continue to work on survey.. Use 911 address.

New Business:
Connie Ellen, Town of DeKalb was here to discuss wireless providers.
There was suggestion that this was not an IT issue.
Also discussion that this is good for municipalities as need is for municipality to utilize.
Regarding benefits they don’t realize how they can help their municipality.
Town Board totally clueless with wireless system.
Connie has questions for boards to ask providers.
Suggest letting towns and villages know what their options are – ahead of time.
Talk with Town Supervisors – meet at Supervisor’s meetings.
Connie wants someone to tell towns/villages/city options they have.
We’ve identified a need – not sure how we should do it…
Planning department have ordinances? Would’ve been good to talk to at Local Government Conference.

Next meeting Format:
October 23rd (Tuesday, 2 pm) location to be determined.
Tom agreed to talk to us about Department of Commerce proposal.
Committee may want to submit questions.
Offer 2 gentlemen (Tom & Andy?) to present them or have questions prior.
Encourage Director of Economic Development and other legislators to be there.
Suggestion to get questions ahead and hope they will answer more questions after we hear what they say.
Presentation on Danc’s proposal to US Department of Commerce - get outline from each presenter so
questions can be asked ahead. Submit questions to Laura Perry by 15th.
